It was in the year 2000 that Mr Carmelo Calleja offered his services to Birkirkara FC, such that the president’s (then Mr Victor Zammit) wish that the club would have its own radio station is fulfilled. The club applied for a license with the Broadcasting Authority and this was granted some time later. In the old premises, a dressing room was converted into a broadcasting studio and a recording studio. The antenna was installed and the equipment was bought. This allowed the station to start broadcasting from the 1st of August 2001.
The slogan clearly underpins the philosophy of our radio station, and from the first day of broadcasting we have transmitted a variety of programmes such as religious, sports, cultural, musical, and other general interest programmes.
BKR is at the service of everyone from Birkirkara especially the sick and the old who are house-bound. In fact, we are committed to broadcast live events in the Birkirkara area, both religious and secular.
